The Industrial Safety Training Council (ISTC) announced they have been approved to become the Southeast Texas region’s newest Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) office and will open its doors on May 2, serving the community Monday to Friday with hours of operations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The office will offer convenient TWIC, TSA PreCheck, HME (Hazardous Materials Endorsement) Threat Assessment Program enrollment, in collaboration with IDEMIA, an official and authorized enrollment services provider to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). ISTC is located at 3749 U.S. 69 North in Beaumont.
TWIC is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for mariners and workers who need access to secure areas of the nation’s maritime facilities and vessels. Jointly administered by TSA and the U.S. Coast Guard, TSA conducts a background check to determine a person’s eligibility and issues the credential. The Coast Guard regulates the use of TWIC in the maritime environment. U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, naturalized citizens, asylum seekers, refugees, and nonimmigrants in lawful status may apply for the TWIC credential.
“We are proud to provide this service to the Southeast Texas maritime and industrial community. ISTC has long been a resource for the oil and gas industry, providing critical services that enable these facilities to continue driving our economy,” stated Bobby Tupper, president & CEO of ISTC. “Many of these critical infrastructure employees and contractors are required to present a TWIC card to enter the gates of industrial facilities throughout Southeast Texas. This service is one more way that ISTC is providing a one-stop shop to support industry working safely.”
The Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment Program (HME)/HAZMAT Endorsement is required by the Department of Transportation for those with state-issue commercial driver’s license who are transporting hazardous materials.
TSA PreCheck is a trusted traveler program that provides low-risk travelers with a smoother experience at airport security checkpoints. It’s a great option for travelers looking to save time.  The program is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and lawful permanent residents. The enrollment process is quick, convenient, and even faster when the application is completed online beforehand. IDEMIA offers TSA PreCheck enrollment for $78 and if approved, travelers get a five-year membership with the program.
“We are excited to partner with IDEMIA to bring convenient enrollment for TSA programs to Southeast Texas residents and look forward to the value the new office will bring,” added Tupper.
